Stinkin’ viruses

In the last 5 days I have received 6 virus emails! (Update: 15 emails and counting!)

I don’t use Outlook at home, and I use Linux at work, so it wouldn’t bother me at all. Futhermore, our mailserver runs F-Prot Antivirus on all incoming mail, but still… it’s pretty annoying!

All these emails come from unknown addresses and have meaningless subjects and bodies like:
Subject: unknown
here is the document

or:
Subject: warning
I have your password!

or:
Subject: stolen
is that from you?

and attachments such as: mail2.txt.com, stuff.scr, information.zip and bill.doc.pif.

Would anybody really be so stupid as to open such an attachment? Hard to believe, isn’t it?

Update: It seems to be the W32.Netsky.C@mm virus. More info at Symantec Security Response and virusalert.nl (in Dutch).

  1. You’re not the only one…
My Dad had a lot of Netsky.B’s in the past week, even though he doesn’t give out his domain email address anymore.

  3. No, your not the only one,. My norton anti virus picks up between 20 to 30 Netsky a day. They are so annoying. I dont give out my email either. How I believe this virus works is , someone you know has your email addy or it could be a few people in their address book and what this netsky does is pick up all the email address and sends out the viruses . But the person doesnt know that they have a virus in their computer. Anyway, it’s so bloody annoying these viruses. I have spent so much money on the best firewalls, anti virus, adware you name it I have. Makes you wonder why someone hasn’t worked out a programme to complety stop these annoying pests… Could It be money??

    regards
    Me From Down Under….Ö¿Ö
