Wereldhavendagen
My girlfriend and I went to the World Port Days on Saturday.
There were lots of things to see and do in and around Rotterdam, such as demonstrations of the navy, port authority and fire department, and excursions to the “Van Brienenoord” bridge, the ECT container terminal, and a cruise ferry. Or you could make a helicopter flight to see the port from the sky, or a boat trip to see it from the water.
We visited a British aircraft carrier and were allowed to handle weapons (machine guns, cannons, a rocket launcher!) and take a look inside the helicopters on board. Very spectacular!
Back from France
We returned from France, yesterday.
We had a really perfect holiday, with magnificent surroundings, and beautiful weather!
My girlfriend and I stayed on a camping in Allemont, in the Vallée de l’Eau d’Olle, about 50 kilometers east of Grenoble.
From our tent we looked out upon Alpe d’Huez, and the mountain range of the Grandes Rousses with its glaciers.
We have done a lot of walking, up to 7 hours and 900 meters of climbing. We have swum in a small mountain lake at 2100 meters altitude. We have done something called Hydrospeed on the river Vénéon, and we threw snowballs on the glacier on Pic Blanc at 3330 meters altitude!
The weather was very good, 35 to 40 degrees mostly, except for the two times that we nearly washed down the mountain. Rain and thunder up in the mountains is not much fun when you still have to descend for an hour and a half to get back to the car… But we got home safe alright.
All in all, we had a wonderful holiday together. Only way too short…
Update: A selection of photographs is now available on my site (if you have the password, of course).
Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice
I am now the proud owner of this book!
A very nice book, hardcover, 1200 pages, and of course a great, if not the reference book for computer graphics.
Charl has got his version signed by Jim Foley himself, the last time he visited our group. Maybe he’ll come back some time to sign mine… ![]()
Anyway, I got the book for a mere £ 39.99, or approx. 57 Euros!
Ok, I had to go to London to pick it up, by I was planning to go there anyway…
There and back again (twice)
I’m off for the weekend, leaving for London on Friday morning.
I’m going to visit my brother and sister-in-law, whom I haven’t seen since their wedding. And I still haven’t seen the photos I made that day.
Furthermore, they have got a book for me, and I’ve still got half of their wedding present
And of course, a weekend in London is always nice, there’s lots to see…
Busy weekend
Because last Thursday was Ascension Day, I also took the day off on Friday, and therefore had a nice long weekend to enjoy the beautiful weather.
English wedding
I’ve been on holiday last week.
My brother got married last Saturday (May 3rd), so we combined that with a small vacation. My brother lives in London, but his parents-in-law live in Nursling, a small village near Southampton.
They decided to marry there, in a small church dedicated to St. Boniface, who went to monastic school there.
Back from holiday
If you were wondering why you haven’t heard from me last week…
I was on a skiing trip to Italy!
The weather was perfect, the countryside was magnificent, the pistes were beautiful… In one word: wow!
I had a great time, got a bit of a suntan, and I didn’t even break anything… ![]()
Unfortunately, it’s back to work now!
Ben’s gone skiing
I learned on New Year’s Eve that a couple of my friends, with whom I went skiing last year, had planned their skiing holiday for this year, independently of each other, to the same place, in the same week.
So, I decided I’d also arrange something there and then, and today, I got the confirmation from the hotel… I’m going to Selva Gardena, Italy in a few weeks! And I’m very much looking forward to it!
Update: If you have the correct username and password, you can check out the photos here.
The Two Towers
I’ve been to London between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Went to see the apartment of my brother and his fiancée. They’ve lived in that apartment for about a year or so, but I hadn’t even been there yet!
We went to see The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers. Great movie! Well, at least for my part!
However, my future sister-in-law would’ve walked away if it hadn’t been for us. She didn’t dare to watch the massive fight scenes with all the horrid creatures like Orcs and Uruk-hai. Afterwards she kept saying she couldn’t believe the movie was for 12 years and older…
But, as I said, I thought it was a great movie… Looking forward to part three!
