LOTR

Woohoo! The postman just delivered a package, I’ve been anxiously waiting for…

It’s the DVD box set of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Special Extended Edition!
12 DVDs containing 35 hours of video!

I wanted to have the DVDs from the moment I heard about the first movie. But I waited… and waited… and waited some more… for the extended versions and the trilogy box.

And then I thought it was a bit expensive, 130 euros or so. So I doubted… and waited… and doubted some more… 🙂

Until Proxis reduced the price, a few weeks ago, to Eur. 69.99! That was it, no more doubts, I just had to have it.

So, now the question is: when am I going to watch all that? I don’t know! Let’s see, if I start right now, I’ll be finished… Saturday morning around 4 am! OK, let’s go! 🙂

BTW, I just noticed that other shops have lowered their prices as well (of course!), but I’m pretty sure Proxis was the first.

Bork, bork, bork!

This morning I picked up a couple of DVDs of The Muppet Show, I ordered earlier this week from the Free Record Shop.

Oh, I’m already looking forward to 7 hours of ROTFLMAO.

I ordered two boxes, the first one containing three dvds and the second one another two dvds. And all that for only 25 euros!

DVD writer (2)

I don’t know if it has to do with my posting from last week, (maybe it was cause for some discussion,) but we now have a dvd writer in our group!
No, it is not the new one announced by Iomega, capable of writing DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM, but the Sony DWU10A DVD±RW writer (which, by the way, does not seem to exist on the Sony site; the closest you can get, is probably this one).

Finally, I can now backup my home directory on one single disc again!

DVD writer

Who needs standards?
There are three different formats for writable DVD’s, DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM. For more info about the differences, take a look at this site, for example.

So, the big problem is of course, if you want to buy a dvd writer, which format should you choose? The one may be technologically more advanced, the other more widespread or compatible.

DVD movies with xine

Got my xine to play encrypted dvd’s on my home pc!

I had the xine and xine-dvdnav packages installed, but it refused to play CSS encrypted VOB-files. So I tried to install libdvdcss2. This library needed libdvdread2. However, I probably downloaded the wrong version, because when I tried to install that, it complained about me having a too old libc6 version.
I didn’t what to update that, so I tried something else… and I found the d4d plugin. Just ./configure; make; make install.
Yeah right…!
