My Best Friend’s Wedding

Yesterday, we went to the wedding of two of our best friends.
They looked georgeous and perfectly happy, and the weather was great!

They married in Breda, a beautiful town, first in the city hall and after that in a very nice, little old church. Champagne and wedding cake after that, and in the evening there was a great party.

I videotaped (the most important parts of) the entire day. I’m anxious to see how I did! 🙂 I didn’t keep the tapes of course, so I’ll just have to wait and see…

They’re off to Thailand for their honeymoon in a few days. Have fun, there, guys! And I wish you all the best and happiness together, for the rest of your lives! *BIG HUG*

Zandvoort

Again, we went away for the weekend, this time to Zandvoort. Together with a couple of friends, we went to Center Parcs Park Zandvoort. Close to the racing circuit at Zandvoort, where we heard and saw people racing and skidding.

We didn’t do anything special, we went shopping in Haarlem on Saturday and walked along the beach on Sunday, but it was a nice and relaxing weekend.

VRO1

Yesterday, together with the two friends I took my motorcycle riding lessons with, I did the VRO1 or “Voortgezette rijopleiding 1” (advanced motorcycle training).
A very useful course and very much fun to do!

You learn a few basic things, such as turning, the slalom or emergency braking. But also braking on a dirty road, riding over obstacles, and “motorgymnastics”. We ended the day with about 15 laps racing the circuit.
And almost all of this could also be done with a passenger.

We had a great day, definitely worth its money. Plus, with the certificate we’ve got, we can get a 5% discount on our insurance!

For more info (in Dutch) check out the webpage of the KNMV and click “Opledingen”, “De Motorrijder”, “voortgezette rijopleiding”, “vro” and “vro 1”.

Gorges du Verdon

Last week, we were on holiday in France, camping near the Gorges du Verdon. We were in a small village, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, just north of the Lac de Sainte Croix, on the camping St. Jean (which I can highly recommend).

We had a great time. We have walked le sentier Martel (14 kilometers, 6 hours), rented waterbikes, swum in the lake, visited Cannes. The last morning, we went canyoning! That is really very much fun to do (if you’re not afraid of heights!). It’s part walking and abseiling, and part swimming, wading through the river and jumping off waterfalls. Very spectacular!

On Provence Web there is some more info about the gorges, about the village of Moustiers and about the lake.
And take a look at this site, which has some nice pictures of the gorges and the lake.

Update (July 16): The photos are now available from photos.bvrolijk.net, if you have the correct username and password, that is.

Binnenweg Blog

My good friend Henk-Jan finally started his own weblog: Binnenweg Blog.

I hope I can help him get a few hits with this entry, and be found by google, of course!

And because he added a link to my weblog, I will return the favor and add Binnenweg Blog to my Links.

B.T.W. Unfortunately, the site is in Dutch. How about an English version, HJ?

Skiing trip

Last Saturday I returned from my skiing holiday. With a couple of friends I went to Oz-en-Oisans, near Alpe d’Huez, only a few kilometers from where my girlfriend and I stayed this summer.
It was great fun, and very nice to see what it looks like in winter. I’ve been to the same places and have taken photographs on the same spots as I did then.

Unfortunately, the weather hasn’t been very good all the time, we had a couple of snow storms, but luckily also a few very beautiful days.

On Tuesday we celebrated my birthday with a very nice dinner in a restaurant in Les Deux Alpes.

Update: The photos are available on my photo gallery.

van16hoog.nl

My good friend Vincent has been blogging for about half a year now, and he pointed me to the new weblog of one of our mutual friends, Arjan, who launched his weblog Van16hoog.nl just a week ago. Enjoy!

Wereldhavendagen

My girlfriend and I went to the World Port Days on Saturday.
There were lots of things to see and do in and around Rotterdam, such as demonstrations of the navy, port authority and fire department, and excursions to the “Van Brienenoord” bridge, the ECT container terminal, and a cruise ferry. Or you could make a helicopter flight to see the port from the sky, or a boat trip to see it from the water.

We visited a British aircraft carrier and were allowed to handle weapons (machine guns, cannons, a rocket launcher!) and take a look inside the helicopters on board. Very spectacular!

Bad luck

In other news today, I had some bad luck with my motorbike.
I had stopped somewhere in Rotterdam for a while, and the moment I wanted to ride off, the clutch cable broke! Well, I suppose it is possible to get home without a clutch, but to be honest, I did not want to try…
Of course it was just a few minutes past six, so all the shops were closed. *sigh*

I did get home, eventually, on the back of my friend’s bike… (and thank you for that, HJ!)

Update (June 27): I bought a new clutch cable this morning. I’ve gone to work by car today. I have left my bike where it was yesterday, and I’m going there this afternoon to fix the cable. Then I still have to figure out how to get my bike and my car back home… 🙁
