Really left Rotterdam

Today I handed in the keys to my appartment in Rotterdam!

On inspection, everything was found to be ok, and I was even able to sell my carpets for a couple hundred euros.

By the way, I did sell my two couches in the past weeks. I didn’t get as much for them as I had wanted, but anything is better than nothing…

As you may have known, read, heard or guessed, Irene and I have got married on May 20.

It was a beautiful day.
There were so many people, the weather was really great, and everything was just perfect (a big “thank you” to our best man and woman!)… and we got lots of presents! 🙂

The photo shoot in the morning was a great deal of fun. And yesterday evening, only 3 weeks later, we got the photo album from the photographer. He did a great job! Another big “thank you” to Fotostudio Aster Oostkapelle.

The wedding ceremony was in Veere, Zeeland. A picturesque little town, with a beautiful old city hall. The old windmill and the harbour and lake side were very nice for the photo shoot.

The reception, dinner and party were in Rotterdam in the Zuiderparkrestaurant Meerzicht. A very good restaurant at a great location. Again a big “thank you” to them!

All in all it was just a perfect day! We are so happy that so many people came to celebrate our wedding together with us, and that so many of them spent enormous amounts of time to make this day to what it was.

Queen Mary 2

Yikes! What a huge ship that is!

If you have the opportunity, you should really go and see it, at the Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam. But you have to be quick, it is leaving for its home port Southampton this afternoon.

Check out the home page of the QM2 and the information about the current voyage “Northern Europe & Fjords”.

My girlfriend and I went to the World Port Days on Saturday.
There were lots of things to see and do in and around Rotterdam, such as demonstrations of the navy, port authority and fire department, and excursions to the “Van Brienenoord” bridge, the ECT container terminal, and a cruise ferry. Or you could make a helicopter flight to see the port from the sky, or a boat trip to see it from the water.

We visited a British aircraft carrier and were allowed to handle weapons (machine guns, cannons, a rocket launcher!) and take a look inside the helicopters on board. Very spectacular!

Bad luck

In other news today, I had some bad luck with my motorbike.
I had stopped somewhere in Rotterdam for a while, and the moment I wanted to ride off, the clutch cable broke! Well, I suppose it is possible to get home without a clutch, but to be honest, I did not want to try…
Of course it was just a few minutes past six, so all the shops were closed. *sigh*

I did get home, eventually, on the back of my friend’s bike… (and thank you for that, HJ!)

Update (June 27): I bought a new clutch cable this morning. I’ve gone to work by car today. I have left my bike where it was yesterday, and I’m going there this afternoon to fix the cable. Then I still have to figure out how to get my bike and my car back home… 🙁

Because last Thursday was Ascension Day, I also took the day off on Friday, and therefore had a nice long weekend to enjoy the beautiful weather.
